From the Pastor

Usually my articles in the newsletter are purposely forward looking because that is where my focus is in the life of the church, but this month I want to look back first in order to help us look forward.  A lot happened in September and October.  Our Lay Shepherd program seems to have really hit its stride with studies led by Roy Kreiser, John Reidy and Julie Guenther and programs like Family Craft Night, The Women's Retreat, Game Night, Drama Team, Family Fitness, and the Fuscia's Small Group all providing a spiritual spark and fellowship to our church.  The Harvest Fest was amazing this year, with 190 people attending and it was a powerful time of worship.  That represents an almost 30% increase over 2 years ago, which is a sign of the direction the church is headed.  There is so much to be thankful for at Cross Keys and so many ministries to be a part of.  We had great participation in Laity Sunday led by Lee Chadwick and a Church Conference that left our District Superintendant impressed with how we are doing.  All the signs are pointing to a great 2009 for our Church.  Despite all of the optimism, we must stay faithful to our calling.  There are many things happening in our world that are a threat to the life of the church if we stray from Jesus Christ.  The economy is tumbling, families are struggling to get by and there seems to be a general feeling of despair in the country.  If we think our problems will be solved by electing a new president, we are sadly mistaken.  Our problems are spiritual and only a recommitment to God is going to get us through these difficult times.  That is what the church is here for -to help folks commit or recommit to God through Jesus Christ.  So what could be a difficult time could also be an amazing time for the church as there will be new opportunities to minister to hurting people.  I know Cross Keys is up to the task and that we will do our best to make disciples and stay faithful no matter what.  Praise God!

In His Mighty Name,

Pastor Brian
